This week we have the pleasure of pouring some new arrivals from Tom Lubbe's Domaine Matassa.  Tom is a New Zealander who grew up in South Africa and in the late 90's, was working at the only estate in South Africa using indigenous yeasts and lower yields. Interested in working with Mediterranean varieties, Tom managed to score a 3 month internship at the legendary Domaine Gauby in the village of Calce. Gérard Gauby quickly befriended Tom and asked him to come back for three consecutive vintages as cellar helper.  Fast forward a few years and Tom had settled there for good and started his own operation, working with old vines of traditional Catalan varieties like Grenache, Carignan, and Macabeu and farming biodynamically.  These wines are always incredibly precise and elegant without losing their Earth-bound qualities, and this year's crop is no exception.  We'll have one white and three reds open, come say hi.
